The duplicate-borrower warning

Adding a borrower who matches an existing contact prompts you to reuse the existing one or create anyway.

Updated June 27, 2026

To keep your contacts clean, NoteHarbor warns you before you create a borrower who looks like one you already have.

When it triggers

When you save a borrower whose email, phone, or name + address matches an existing contact, a Possible duplicate found panel appears with the match and what it matched on.

Your choices

  • Use this — reuse the existing borrower instead of making a copy.
  • Create anyway (or Save anyway when editing) — proceed if it really is a different person.
  • Keep editing — go back and adjust the details.

Where it happens

The check runs from both Add borrower (/borrowers/new) and when you edit an existing borrower — so duplicates get caught either way.

Reusing the existing contact keeps one tidy record per borrower, with all their loans attached.
