When a payment crosses its grace period, NoteHarbor can assess a late charge automatically. If you decide to forgive one, you can waive it.
Who can waive
Only the Owner and Admins can waive a late fee — it forgives money owed, so it sits at the same level as deletions and the audit trail. Managers and Team Members don't see the control.
How to waive
- Open the loan and go to the Overview tab.
- Find the Outstanding Late Charges card.
- Click Waive on the charge, type a short reason (required), and confirm.
What happens
- The charge is marked Waived (with who waived it, when, and why) and leaves the outstanding list.
- The loan's late-charge balance drops by that amount, so payoff quotes, statements, and the 1098 all reflect the waiver immediately.
- The action is recorded in the audit trail ("Waived a $X late fee — reason").
Only outstanding charges can be waived; one that's already been paid can't.
